My Story
A Journey of Resilience and Purpose
My journey has been long and winding, marked by trials and triumphs. From working in the warehouse business from 1979 to 1985 to joining the military in 1985 under the delayed entry program, I've always sought growth and purpose. In May 1986, I embarked on a transformative path by joining the Navy as a Naval Photographer—a role that allowed me to capture moments of valor and camaraderie.
After completing photography school, I was assigned to the USS America (CV-66), a carrier based on the East Coast. Four years of sea duty followed, filled with unforgettable experiences and challenges. My journey then led me to NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA, where I continued to serve with dedication. In September 1992, I was offered an early honorable discharge, which I accepted, marking the end of my military service.
The next chapter of my life saw me diving into photography for a short period before transitioning to a career as a truck driver. From 2000 onwards, I drove a rock truck for over 20 years. However, on February 14, 2022, my life took a sharp turn when my employer laid off the entire plant I worked at. This, coupled with an illness I've battled since 1999, led me to make the difficult decision to quit truck driving.
The challenges didn't end there. I lost my father in February 2022 and my grandmother the following month. Amidst this turmoil, I moved to my grandmother's house in Mabank, TX, and found solace in a job at CVS, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, after nine months, my illness forced me to go on disability.
It was during one of my last trips to the emergency room that my wife, Beth, finally uncovered the root of my health issues—Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS). This elusive condition, which had evaded diagnosis for 25 years, brought both relief and a new set of challenges. Despite the medication helping to some extent, the daily episodes hindered my ability to hold a job.
In addition to CVS, I underwent surgery to remove 70% of a retroperitoneal tumor located between my abdomen and spine. While they couldn't remove it all due to its attachment to my L4-5 vertebrae, the procedure was a step forward. The tumor, the size of a baseball, was unrelated to my other condition, yet it added to my physical struggles. I also had surgery to address severe hemorrhoids, which helped lower my blood pressure.
Now, as I face regular scans to monitor the tumor and await a long-awaited diagnosis after 25 years of suffering, I find strength in my faith. God has been my anchor through it all, and I believe He has a plan for me.
With the inability to work, I've turned my focus to a cause close to my heart—helping the homeless. This mission has been on my mind for a long time, and I Started a website dedicated to this cause. I invite everyone to join me in making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
